Line Up With Your Radiant Self

Notice how you hold yourself up throughout your day.

I have an area on my back that gets stuck. When I ask it what it is trying to tell me, it responds with the limiting belief: “You cannot take care of yourself”. I call not-true on that one. From there, I replace it with affirming and positive beliefs, such as: “I am powerful, loving and loved”. (a favorite from the book “Feel the Fear and Do It Anyways, by Susan Jeffers, available here on Amazon:
Feel the Fear and Do It Anyways

We all have areas in our body where we may get stuck. For most people, it is around the head, neck and shoulders, some people the low back, and others may be blessed with seemingly perfect posture, while struggling to “hold themselves up”. Head forward posture is endemic in our culture. Especially if you are living from a place of shoulds (telling yourself you should be a different size, shape or model other than you are), tend to overanalyze or be more of a philosopher. Did you know that you can tell a lot about a person by their facial structure as well? Someone with a large forehead tends to be more of a philosopher, with more room in their frontal lobe. If you have a large chin, such as George Leno, you have a large and abundant sex drive. It’s fun to live from the inside out and to stand up and own the radiance you have inside of you!

Look in the mirror to check your own posture–are your shoulders in line? Is one hip higher than the other? From there, take it upon yourself to live from the inside out and feel comfortable in your body! Posture is habit and habits are unconscious repititions. Are you living in pain and unaware of it? Are you shy or self-conscious? Is your body holding you back from fully expressing yourself? Are you ready to stand up tall and line yourself up with an effortless state of being? Ways to fix your posture:

  • Don’t allow your pelvis to tilt forward
  • If you are sittign at a desk, act as if you have a tail, and you want to open your tail so you are not sitting on it (yogis, this goes against “tailbone tucked under”)
  • Hold your belly in slightly, while leaving room for the breath–as my favorite pilates teacher, Sonje Mayo puts it: “30%, hold yourself in 30%”!!!
  • Sit up at your desk, I recommend a ball chair, available here:http://www.gaiam.com/p2p/searchResults.do?method=view&search=basic&keyword=ball+chair&sortby=bestSellers&page=1
  • Lift your head not from your forehead, but from the crown of your head–lengthen and lift!
  • Hydrate! If your in pain, and concerned your not perfect, start by drinking water. Adding in healthier habits will help you to lighten up and lengthen like never before. Let go of the booze, replace it with spring water. Your spine will thank you for it.
  • Relax! You are not going to get hurt when you allow your radiance to shine! Allow yourself to relax throughout the day. Take breaks from the computer. Get up and STRETCH! Look out the window and allow your eyes to take in a view of the horizon–this will relax you inside and out!

Come see me for a FREE pilates or Feldenkrais or yoga session and/or customary energy alignment session Ask yourself simple questions to see what is stuck in your back, what you are resisting, what you could be doing, or letting go of, that may help you get in line with your radiant and effortless self. As Socrates puts it:

“The unexamined life may be worth living, but it’s posture ain’t as pretty”.

Get yourself in line. If you need help, call or email me for a coaching session and to line yourself up with the radiance that is asking to be expressed through you. Waller McInnes waller@createradiance.com 615-618-6556
